Girls Rugby

Everton Park Junior Rugby Union Club – Girls Rugby

Welcome to the Girls Rugby at the Roosters.

At Everton Park Junior Rugby Union Club (EPJRUC), we are very excited to announce that we will again be fielding teams in the Girls Rugby competition conducted by the Brisbane Junior Rugby Union (BJRU).

It is an exciting time for girls wanting to play rugby with opportunities to learn and develop their skills and have fun with their friends.

Better yet at EPJRUC we have experienced, passionate female coaches to build confidence, respect, leadership and team work.

Why Play Girls Rugby?

TEAMWORK Feeling part of a team encourages strong friendships outside school groups and helps develop social skills.

RESPECT Healthy competition teaches girls to appreciate differences in teammates and to respect their coaches, opponents and referees.

FITNESS Rugby suits boys and girls of all shapes and sizes and helps build strength, stamina and coordination.

DEVELOPMENT Rugby helps develop both physical fitness and concentration through regular training and learning strategic game plays.

ROLE MODELS Coaches, managers, older players and ex-players are an excellent source of positive inspiration for impressionable young players.

FUN Girls love it! And, parents love watching their girls gain confidence and motivation through healthy competition.

Who can play in the BJRU Girls competition?

Anyone can play. Our players come from varied backgrounds including Touch, OzTag, dancing and horse-riding.

The Roosters will form teams from under 12,14 and 16 to be part of the BJRU competition.

We welcome any girls in these age groups, whether you have played before or not. We will provide an excellent program with experienced coaches, our focus being on enjoyment of the game, teamwork and learning the skills to play the great game of Rugby.

Interest in Girls Rugby 7s is growing fast with the recent success of our Australian Women’s 7s team winning Gold at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio, Silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast and named Champions of the Worlds Sevens Series Circuit in 2015-16 and 2017-18.

This interest in Girls Rugby 7s continues to grow with the Australian Women’s 7s team qualifying and ready to defend their title in July at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.

Rugby 7s will be played at the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane!

At the Roosters we were very privileged to have Olympic gold medalist and current Australian women’s national rugby sevens team squad member Ellia Green visit our Club, run some training sessions and speak to our young rugby players about nutrition and fitness. She was inspirational!
